JRF POSITIONS AVAILABLE at RAJIV GANDHI CENTRE FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY (RGCB) in CANCER BIOLOGY

What is this all about?
TEMPORARY POSITION AVAILABLE at RAJIV GANDHI CENTRE FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY (RGCB)An Autonomous National Institute under Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology

Applications are invited from suitable candidates for one position of Junior Research Fellow in a BRNS funded research project on "Studies on regulation of cell growth by BRCA ½ in prostate cancer cells; influence of certain selected quinones” in the Cancer Cell Biology Laboratory.


Who Can Apply?
M.Sc in Biotechnology with a minimum of 60% marks (for both B.Sc. and M.Sc.) is essential. Candidates with NET/GATE qualifications and experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques are preferred.

Age: Below 35 years

Area of Work/Job profile: Cancer biology/Junior Research Fellow
 
Fellowship/Stipend: Rs.12,000/- consolidated per month
 
Duration: Three years or till termination of the project (whichever is earlier).

Applications and Selection Procedures
Only those fulfilling the above criteria need apply and will be called for interview.

Suitably qualified candidates may send applications on plain paper with a photograph, a copy of full resume and attested photocopies of credentials & experience to reach the undersigned on or before January 5th, 2010. The envelopes must be superscripted with abbreviated title of the project, the advertisement number and job title. Selection to the position will not entitle the candidate to any future positions at RGCB (permanent or otherwise). As with all project positions at RGCB, the position will be co terminus with end of the project

In the event of more than 10 candidates being short listed, a written test will be done before the selection interview

PhD admission at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB)

What is this all about ?
Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is an autonomous National Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. It is located in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram city. The centre’s research focus is in areas of Disease Biology & Molecular Medicine as well as Plant Biotechnology & Discovery. Detailed information on the Faculty, Research Programs and other activities is available elsewhere on the website and all applicants are encouraged to go through the same and familiarise themselves with the range of research activities before they complete the application.

Who Can Apply?
General Category
A First Class or above with 60% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average in all examinations: 10th, 12th, Degree and Post-graduate course. Age of less than 28 years as on June 1, 2010. Should hold a valid Fellowship from UGC/CSIR/ICMR/KSCSTE/ Category A of DBT. Mere NET qualification is not sufficient.

For SC/ST candidates
Relaxation of criteria of First Class is available for SC/ST candidates. Marks of 50% or above or equivalent Grade Point Average in all examinations: 10th, 12th, Degree and Post-graduate course is sufficient. Age relaxation by up to five (5) years is also available for SC/ST candidates. No processing fees need be remitted by SC/ST candidates .SC/ST candidates should attach a copy of the Caste Certificate from a competent authority to prove their status. All SC/ST candidates should hold a valid fellowship from UGC/CSIR/ICMR/KSCSTE/ Category A of DBT. NET qualification alone is not sufficient.

 Area of Research:
Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) has major research programs in Disease Biology & Molecular Medicine as well as Plant Biotechnology & Discovery. Applications are invited from Postgraduates in Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Biotechnology, Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences for our PhD program, currently affiliated to University of Kerala.

Applications and Selection Procedure?

Prescribed Fees:

There is a fee of Rs. 500 (Rupees Five hundred only) for all general candidates. A Demand Draft drawn in favour of Director, RGCB and payable at Thiruvananthapuram should be enclosed along with the application. The name of the candidate and the telephone number should be written in pencil behind the DD.

SC/ST candidates are exempt from paying any fees.

The completed application forms with the required attachments should reach the centre on or before December 14, 2009. Please super-scribe the envelope as "Application for the Ph.D. Programme-January 2010" .Self attested copies of the Mark sheets and proof of Date of Birth and Award of Fellowship must be attached along with the application.SC/ST candidates should attach a copy of Caste Certificate also along with the application. All original documents should be produced for verification at the time of Interview.
Names of shortlisted candidates will be put up on the RGCB website and will also be notified by email by December 21, 2009. A selection interview will be held at RGCB on Monday, January 11, 2010.

Important Info:
Students studying for the Final semester may also apply. However, at the time of selection interview they should be able to demonstrate that they have received marks or GPA equivalent to a First Class in the Masters Degree examination.

Students must also produce proof of having been selected for JRF position at the time of interview. If the award letter is not received, a copy of the Hall Ticket showing the roll number and the corresponding number from the website of the agency awarding the fellowship is sufficient.

The PhD program of RGCB is affiliated to the University of Kerala. All selected candidates will be registered in the appropriate Department of the University of Kerala and will have to follow the rules, regulations and guidelines of the University. All selected candidates for the PhD program have to successfully undergo a 3 month coursework and lab rotation in RGCB in addition to any requirement imposed by the Kerala University before they are assigned to a laboratory or a research program

No TA/DA will be paid to the candidates appearing for interview. They will have to make their own arrangements for accommodation while coming for the interview. The interview may go on until late and the candidates may not be able to leave Thiruvananthapuram on the same day and in such cases it is the responsibility of the candidate to make arrangements to stay in the city or leave later, as the case may be.

Please note that fulfilling the minimum requirements stipulated in the advertisement would not automatically entitle a candidate for selection. The decision of the Centre shall be final and binding in this regard. Canvassing in any form will be treated as a disqualification.

Shared hostel accommodation will be made available to all selected applicants who join the PhD program. The hostel may be on campus or off campus, depending on availability.

Please note that all applicants for the PhD program must be bonafide Indian citizens.
