"Understanding SCIENCE" - Summer camp for high school students
Science has become an important and permanent part of our daily lives. It not only gives us the platform to ask the "what, how and why" of nature but also has become an indispensible tool to ensure development of society and even sustenance of life. It is therefore of utmost importance to educate the people about all the recent developments in science and technology. IISER Bhopal, a premier educational Institute in the country, actively engaged in quality research and teaching believes in creating such an awareness. Aimed at students who have just cleared their class IX and XI examinations, IISER Bhopal invites applications from students interested in attending a short summer camp (16th – 21st May, 2011) at its premises. The summer camp will consist of interactive lectures, along with an exposure to laboratory work guided by IISER faculty members.
Our efforts are to make science as interesting and exciting as possible for the participants, so that they not only understand the basic principles of science, but also learn how to apply them in their daily lives. The objective of this program is to inculcate in students an aptitude to appreciate the role and contribution of science in the betterment of mankind. The program has been designed to create harmony between learning and applying scientific knowledge towards the development of the society.
Expenses,which include lodging and food, will be covered by IISER Bhopal for all the participants. A doctor will be made available on campus (24 hours)
to ensure personal health and wellbeing of all the candidates.
Important dates:
1. February 28, 2011: Last date for submission of forms ( Download Application Form on website )
2. March 15, 2011: List of shortlisted candidates (will be uploaded on the website).
3. March 30, 2011: Last date for the payment of Registration Fee (for selected candidates). To facilitate homogeneous interaction between the students and faculty members, the seats are limited to 40. After
initial screening the selected candidates would have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 500/- only in the form of a demand draft in favour of "The Director, IISER Bhopal".
4. May 16, 2011: Reporting time at IISER Bhopal (Any candidate who comes to Bhopal on 15th night will be given accommodation).
5. May 16, 2011: Registration time (11:00 am – 6:00 pm) IISER Bhopal hope to provide all the participants with the best possible scientific experience.

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal is an autonomous Institution established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The Research and Development office of the Institute is a subsidiary wing with a mission to promote and pursue Sponsored and Consultancy projects of short term nature to support the research element of the faculties. The Research and Development wing of the Institute invites applications from Indian nationals for the following temporary and short term project positions in the office of Research & Development.
Project Office Associate (02)
Essential Qualification : B Tech/BE/MCA/MSc in Computer Science or Information Technology.
Desirable: Two years working experience with proficiency of programming using Visual C++/ Visual Basic/Visual Java. Experience in Office Automation Software Development and Database Administration will be an added advantage.
Initial Consolidated Salary: ` 12,000/- PM. + HRA 20% with a provision
for annual increment @ 10% on initial consolidated salary.
Project Lab Assistant (05)
Essential Qualification: BSc or equivalent
Desirable: Two years working experience in handling laboratory or
Research equipment and scientific equipment /central instrumentation
equipment like NMR/GCMS/ HRMS/MALDI-MS/FPLC/XRD/PPMS/SQUID etc.
Initial Consolidated Salary: 8,000/- PM. + HRA 20% with a provision for annual increment @ 10% on initial consolidated salary.
General Term and Condition:
1) The posts are initial for a period of one year and further extendable on yearly basis based on continuation of research project.
2) The posts are purely contractual and temporary and for a maximum period of 3 to 5 years duration.
The application in the prescribed Performa should contain a detailed bio-data. Xerox copies of the certificates / mark sheets and other testimonials should be provided at the time of interview. Applications are invited from motivated candidates for pursuing Ph.D. programme in the theoretical/computational chemistry and biomolecular modeling research group of Dr. Rajesh K. Murarka at the Department of Chemistry of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal.
The research projects involve:
1. Developement and application of state-of-the-art molecular dynamics simulation techniques to understand the physics of the interactions governing the structure, function, and dynamics of bio-molecules (proteins and nucleic acids) at different length and time scales and its coupling with the surrounding solvent environment.
2. Use of the various classical molecular simulation methods and ab initio quantum simulations to study the structural and dynamical properties of liquids (in particular, water and room-temperature ionic liquids), and the nature of solvation energetics and dynamics in these systems.
Applicants should have a Masters Degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry, Biophysics or a related science or engineering area with excellent academic record and a valid GATE/CSIR-UGC-NET (JRF/LS)/JEST/DBT-JRF certificate.
The selected candidates will be awarded scholarship as per the rules of Government of India.

Duration: One year (Extendable to up to three years, subject to satisfactory performance).
