The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) is a premier research organization in frontier areas of modern biology. The objectives of the Centre are to conduct high quality basic research and training in frontier areas of modern biology, and promote centralized national facilities for new and modern techniques in the inter-disciplinary areas of biology,
CCMB was set up initially as a semi-autonomous Centre on April 1, 1977 with the Biochemistry Division of the then Regional Research Laboratory (presently, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, IICT) Hyderabad forming its nucleus and Dr P M Bhargava heading the new Centre. Earlier, the Governing Board of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) New Delhi, the apex body which constituted 44 research institutions in the country, approved the proposal in 1976 to establish such a Centre in view of the importance of research in the frontier and multi-disciplinary areas of modern biology. During 1981-82, the CCMB was accorded the status of a full-fledged national laboratory with its own Executive Committee and Scientific Advisory Council. With major expansion plans, it was decided to relocate the Centre to a spacious campus.
Objectives
To conduct research in frontier and multi-disciplinary areas of modern biology and to seek potential applications of this work.
To train people in the advanced areas of biology to serve the needs of development in these areas, with special provision for short-term training of staff from other institutions in techniques for which adequate facilities may not exist elsewhere.
To provide centralized facilities in the country for new and modern techniques in the inter-disciplinary areas of biology, and to ensure that these facilities are so organized, maintained and administered that they can be put to maximal use by research workers from other laboratories and institutions in the country.
Awards and Recognitions
CCMB has been chosen as a Centre of Excellence, by UNESCO's Global Network of Molecular and Cell Biology.
CCMB received the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Award, Italy and designated as a South Centre of Excellence in Research & Training.
The probe developed at the CCMB for DNA fingerprinting won the CSIR Technology Award in Biological Sciences.
CCMB has been given the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Award for Outstanding Achievement in Science & Technology.
CCMB is a Member of the ICICI Knowledge Park launched jointly by the Industrial Credit & Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) Ltd., and the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad.
CCMB is a Member of APBioNet, an International Website for the advancement of Bioinformatics.

About the Event
Proteomics has emerged as an important discipline to understand the function of genes, in terms of proteins that maintain normal cellular functions and so the human health. New Proteomics technologies/approaches for the study of protein dynamics are continuously evolving. With a range of potential applications of Proteomics, from basic biology to drug target discovery or discovery of diagnostic biomarkers, there is exponential growth of information. Yet, the technologies offer a challenge for their optimal use in a given biological context.
The AOHUPO (Asia Oceania Human Proteome Organization) is dedicated to fostering proteomic initiatives and efforts internationally and regionally. AOHUPO organizes biannual Proteomics Conference in the AO region. ADNAT (Association for the Promotion of DNA Finger Printing and Associated DNA Technologies) is an Indian organization managed by scientists and science thinkers from various biology disciplines, is recognized for its Annual Conventions, in India, on Contemporary Topics in Biology and associated Hands-on Training Program. It has chosen Proteomics as the theme chosen for its 2010 Meeting. Proteomics Society, India is a recently formed forum of the Indian Proteomics community that has fast grown to a critical size in recent years. It plans to pursue a strong mandate for promoting education and research in Proteomics in India through educational workshops, discussions and collaborative interactions. It is a relational Society under AOHUPO. It is with this synergy, the three organizations are jointly hosting this event.
The joint event will bring in world experts to share their experiences, regional and Indian scientists to show-case their efforts in Proteomic research and exchange ideas, and young research students to update with the current advances and the fascinating potential of Proteomics Research.

What is this all about?
Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology CCMB Summer training Program 2010
Who Can Apply?
The training program is open to all branches of sciences and open to all Indian universities.Only the Students who are admitted in a Master’ program (M.Sc.) in year 2009 or B.Tech. (4yr) program in 2007 can apply; M.Tech. students are not eligible. Computer science students with flair for biology may also apply.
Training Program
Each selected candidate/trainee will be assigned to a CCMB staff scientist, and he/she is expected to execute a small project work under the guidance of the scientist. At the end of the program the each trainee would need to submit a ‘Project Report’ of the work done, and also would be required to make an oral presentation.
Selection Process
A committee nominated by the Director, CCMB, selects the trainees. ‘Statement of purpose’ and the ‘Recommendation/reference Letter’ are important considerations in the selection of candidates along with the academic record. The number of trainees intake varies between 30-45 candidates, and mainly depends upon the availability of bench space with different staff scientists of CCMB.
Application procedure
Application for the Summer Program 2010 can be down loaded from the website.
Completed application (Hard copy) for the program MUST reach CCMB by the first Friday of February
2010.
Support Boarding/Lodging
