ARI Pune Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme 2011 | A DST Initiative
Women Scientists Fellowship Scheme (WOS-B) – 2011 of Department of Science & Technology, (SEED), New Delhi Coordinated by MACS - Agharkar Research Institute, Pune
The Fellowship Scheme for Women Scientists for societal programmes is initiative of the Department of Science & Technology. This scheme is addressed to women scientists and technologists who have “break in their careers” due to social responsibilities but have desire to return to mainstream science and work as bench-level scientists. Women scientists desiring to apply for this scheme are required to develop their own research project/ proposals demonstrating science and technological applications for societal benefits.
Objectives
a. Provide an opportunity for women scientists to re-enter into active research after a break in career, through support for S&T based R&D projects addressing the needs of people in unorganized urban or rural areas and
b. Provide an opportunity for S&T capacity building of women on issues relevant insocietal programmes. Project Proposals For a. Research, development and adaptation of technology to improve the quality of life and
provide additional opportunities for income generation in rural areas or urban slums.
b. Adaptation & transfer of an innovative technology developed at laboratory level to field.
c. Capacity building of applicant in technology areas relevant to the needs in rural areas.
Nature of Support
Support will include a scholarship grant as per the current norms of WOS-B for a period of two years. Grant for minor equipment, consumables, contingencies, travel and overheads will also be considered if found necessary under the work plan.
Who Can Apply -
Women scientist
1. Who are Indian nationals living in India,
2. Who have break in career after the last degree received for at least three years, Who are currently not employed in permanent position,
3. Whose age is below 60 years at the time of applying.
4. Who possess one of the following qualification
5. Ph.D. or masters degree in science OR
6. Bachelors/ master’s degree in engineering / technology, architecture, medicine / pharmacy /Veterinary
Other Requirements
a. The project proposal must show an active association with a field agency in regard to implementation of the project irrespective of the fact whether the candidate is attached to an educational institution or R&D institution or any other agency. A letter to that effect from field agency is required.
b. A certificate from the host institution, for extending infrastructural or administrative support for the project must be enclosed with the application. Similarly, a certificate from the identified field agency showing the agreement to get associated with the project is also required.
c. If the proposal includes pre-clinical study on animals or clinical trials on humans, necessary ethical clearance following ICMR/ CPCSEA guidelines must be sought.
Who Are Not Eligible
a. Candidate already having a permanent job or fellowship will not be considered.
b. Candidates who are already registered for Ph.D are not eligible as this is not a Ph.D fellowship.
Duration of Fellowship:
The scholarship will be given initially for duration of two years. The period may be extended to the third year in exceptional cases, if recommended by Experts during periodic reviews.
Selection Mechanism:
A Committee of Experts will be involved in the selection process. The two-tier selection process will be adopted involving initial screening and subsequent individual presentation by the screened-in candidates before a group of Experts. The selected candidates will be informed by post. The list of selected candidates will be displayed on the

Tata Innovation Fellowship
Applications are invited for ‘Tata Innovation Fellowship’, a highly competitive scheme of the
Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Objective
1. The scheme is aimed at rewarding interdisciplinary work where major emphasis is on innovation
and translational research with a potential towards commercialization.
Eligibility
2. The fellowship is open to Indian Nationals residing in India who are below the age of 60 years.
3. The applicant should possess a Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences, Agriculture, Veterinary Science or a
Master’s degree in Medical Sciences, Engineering; or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology/
related areas. The applicant must have adequate professional experience in the specific area and
demonstrated leadership towards innovation.
4. The candidate must have a regular position in a University/Organization/Institute and should be
engaged in research and development. If he/she is availing any other fellowship
(national/international), he/she will have to opt for only one of the fellowships (for example, J.C.
Bose Fellowship, Welcome Trust, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, NIH Senior Fellowship,
Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship and others of similar nature)
About the fellowship
5. The amount of the fellowship will be Rs 20,000 per month in addition to regular salary from the host
institute.
6. In addition, each fellow will receive a contingency grant of Rs 500,000 per annum for meeting the
expenses on consumables, minor equipment, international and domestic travel, manpower and
other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of research
project under the fellowship.

7. The Institution where the candidate is working would provide the necessary infrastructure and
administrative support for pursuing the research under this fellowship. The candidate will continue
to work at the place of his/her employment.
Duration
8. The duration of the fellowship will be initially for three years, extendable further by two years on a
fresh appraisal.

CSIR SPM Fellowship 2010 | JRF Recruitment at CIMAP Lucknow
CSIR SPM Fellowship - 2010 selections will be held from 24 July 2010 to 27 July 2010 at Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Lucknow
The fellowship aims to nurture the budding scientific talent and to nourish the objective of pursuit of scientific research by pursuing Pd.D programme with a special focus in CSIR Labs/other specialized R & D institutions/universities. A stipend of Rs.15000/- + HRA per month is given during the first two years of the fellowship and a contingency grant of Rs.70000/- p.a. May be raised to Rs.18000/- + HRA per month from third year onwards on the basis of review/satisfactory progress. The candidate may be reverted to JRF (NET), if performance is not found satisfactory. The fellowship is granted initially for 2 years, which is extendable as per normal rules for CSIR JRF (NET) Programmes; maximum up to 5 years.
Around top 50 candidates in Life Sciences and Chemical Sciences and top 25 each in Physical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences & Earth Sciences (including candidates from reserved categories as per norms of NET) from each of the two NET examinations conducted in a calendar year. Certain top ranking GATE qualified candidates in the subject areas of NET also called for interview.
The eligible candidates are called for an interview by a specially constituted panel of subject-experts for initial screening. The shortlisted candidates after first interview will be further interviewed by a panel of SPMF Core Committee members and subject- committee chairmen for making final recommendations. The process is likely to be completed by end of July every year.

· M.D/PhD degree with at least three years teaching/research experience for young scientists and at least fifteen years teaching/research experience for senior scientists.
· Regular position in a recognized biomedical/research/health institution in India .
· Below 45 years of age for young and 55 years for senior scientists.
Financial support:
US $ 2400 per month, contingency grant of Rs.15,000/- and return economy class air ticket (excursion airfare) for young scientists. US $ 160 per day (including US$ 75 as per diem and rest for accommodation expenses) and return economy class air ticket (excursion airfare) for senior scientists.

What is this all about?
Applications are invited for the award of “DST-Nano Mission Postdoctoral Fellowship” for pursuing research in frontier areas of Nano Science & Technology. The fellowship is tenable in Research Institutions/Universities including non-profit R & D institutions within India. The fellowships are awarded under the Mission on Nano Science & Technology
(Nano Mission) of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.
Who Can Apply?
The applicants should either hold a Ph.D degree in Science or Engineering or should have submitted the Ph D thesis with research interests in Nano Science and Technology and a good academic record.
Age: They should be below 40 years of age.
Fellowship and other Emolument
The fellowship carries a consolidated monthly stipend of Rs.25,000/- besides a research contingency grant of Rs.50,000/- per annum. Funds will be disbursed through the host institution/university. The postdoctoral fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a maximum period of 2 years. In exceptional cases, depending on the progress of the research, the fellowship can be extended for the third year also. Candidates who have submitted the Ph D thesis but are yet to be awarded the Ph.D degree, if selected, will be paid Rs. 20,000/- per month till the award of the degree.

Selection
The candidates will be selected based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee after the scrutiny of their bio-data, research proposal and performance in the interview. Applicant’s academic and research record, the merit of the proposed research and the facilities available in the host institution for the proposed research will be the key factors for consideration of the application. If the candidate accepts the fellowship, he/she must join the host Institution/University within two month’s time.

Candidates may submit their application on plain paper along with biodata, list of publications (attach reprints of 2 important papers), copies of certificates (B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Tech, Ph.D), one page synopsis of Ph.D thesis, and enclose a short write up (1000 words) on the proposed research which must be compatible with the ongoing research of the proposed supervisor. The candidate should request three referees to send their confidential evaluation directly to the address given below. The applicant is advised to propose his/her place of work, name of the supervisor and his/her consent of accepting the candidate. A declaration stating that if selected for the fellowship, the candidate will complete the tenure of the fellowship should also be furnished

Selection
The candidates will be selected based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee after the scrutiny of their bio-data, research proposal and performance in the interview. Applicant’s academic and research record, the merit of the proposed research and the facilities available in the host institution for the proposed research will be the key factors for consideration of the application. If the candidate accepts the fellowship, he/she must join the host Institution/University within two month’s time.
Submission deadline: There is no last date for application and applications will be received throughout the year. Selection will be made on a periodic basis.
