Admissions 2010 for Undergraduate / Post graduate / PhD courses at Institute of Chemical Technology | ICT , Mumbai
What is this all about?
INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY ADMISSIONS NOTICE: 2010–11
The ICT (estd 1933), formerly called UDCT/UICT, Mumbai is a world-renowned premier institute. It is a unique Deemed University, with unparallel record, funded by the State of Maharashtra, receiving various grants and projects from the UGC, DAE, DBT, DST and other agencies, and Indian and foreign industries, with several centres of excellence: Centres of Advanced Studies in Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering and Technology, Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Physico-Chemical Aspects of Textiles, Fibres, Dyes and Polymers; UGC Networking Resource Centre in Chemical Engineering; DBT-ICT Centre in Energy Biosciences; ICT-DAE Centre in Chemical Engineering Education and Research; Centre for Green Technology and National Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (shared with U of Mumbai). It is rated as number one in Chemical Engineering and Technology in India, also as number one among all non-USA universities and is in the top 10 in these areas in the world, according to Georgia Tech
surveys over the years and this year also. The institute has very strong linkages with industry and produced some of the topmost academics and industrialists. Merit is the only criterion for admission, including government reservation policy. Several merit-cum-means scholarships (251) are awarded to needy students. Research has been an integral part of ICT, with state-of-the-art research facilities and hostel facilities. The faculty is highly accomplished, with multi-disciplinary interests and decorated with national and international awards and honours, having live connections with industry. All leading foreign universities and industries seek ICT graduates. Last year, a record of 161 full-time Ph.D. students and 120 Master’s students, all with fellowships, were admitted. Applications are invited for admission to various programmes as follows:
1. Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and Bachelor of Technology (7 branches of Chemical Technology –

Surfactants Tech.; Pharmaceuticals Tech.; Polymer Eng. and Tech.; Surface Coatings Tech.)
(a) 30% seats on All India basis: AIEEE 2010 score (www.ictmumbai.edu.in; www.udct.org)
(b) 70% seats for Maharashtra: MHT-CET 2010 score and 15% seats NRI Quota (common admissions: see http://www.coep.org.in/)
2. B.Pharm. (Apply directly to Directorate of Technical Education, CAP; http://www.dte.org.in/)
3. Master’s programmes: M.Chem. Eng.; M.Pharm.; M.Tech. (9 branches of Chemical Technology – Bioprocess Tech.; Dyestuff Tech.; Fibres and Textile Processing Tech.; Food Eng. and Tech.; Food Biotech.; Oils, Oleochemicals and Surfactants Tech.; Pharmaceuticals Tech.; Polymer Eng. and Tech.; Surface Coatings Tech.) GATE qualified students are provided fellowships.
4. M.E. (Plastic Engg.)
5. Ph.D. (Tech.) (Regular and Integrated for Bachelors in Chem. Eng. or Tech.)
6. Ph.D. (Sci.) (in all disciplines, conducting research in all engineering/technology depts)
7. QIP for admissions to master’s and Ph.D.s admissions for full time regular/permanent teachers from AICTE approved colleges; also under UGC Networking Resource Centre for Chemical Engineering.
8. Post Graduate Diploma in Chemical Technology Management (Part time 2 year course for Ph.D. registered students and industry personnel) starts in January 2011 (www.ictmumbai.edu.in OR ww.udct.org)
GATE/GPAT qualified students are admitted to Master’s courses with UGC/DBT fellowships.
Ph.D. candidates will be admitted against available fellowships under SAP, other Govt scholarships and sponsored projects, numbering more than 160. Forms along with prospectus will be available at ICT from 21 April 2010.
Last dates of submission at ICT: For undergraduates (AIEEE quota): 15 June 2010 and for Master’s and doctoral degrees: 21 May 2010 (see website http://www.ictmumbai.edu.in/ ; http://www.udct.org/ ).
Students appearing for the qualifying examinations for the academic year 2009–10 and whose results are awaited may also apply by this date. Dates for various entrance examinations for Master’s and Ph.D. admissions will be displayed on the website.
N.B.: M.Tech. (Green Technology) (cross disciplinary; 2 year full time and 3 year part time for industrial
practitioners), and M.Sc. (By papers) in Chemistry, Engineering Mathematics, Physics and Textile Processing are likely to start in 2010–11 for which the approval is awaited by 30 June 2010. Those details will be put on website in first week of July 2010

YOUNG REASEARCHERS’ CONFERENCE (YRC) 2010, conducted at Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai
“Celebrating Green Technology with GO GREEN motive“
The YRC offers enormous opportunities in a number of technologically important areas. The two day conference will provide a national platform for young researchers to exchange their ideas and explore the emerging directions.
It also aims at networking the research in academic institutes and research labs among the country. The conference focuses on research work of experimental, modelling & simulation nature. The conference would be dedicated to all fields of science and technology with an extensive interaction among the young researchers (Master’s & Doctoral level).
CALL FOR PAPERS
Papers based on author’s own research work are invited for oral/poster presentations. Researchers from academic institutes (Master and Doctoral level) and research labs can participate in the conference.
All those desirous of presenting a paper in the conference are requested to submit the papers till December 25, 2009 in the following fields:
• Green Chemistry :Design of product or process that will be reduce or eliminate use & generation of hazardous substances.
• Environmental pollution amendment.
• Basic sciences
• Biotechnology
• Chemical Engineering including Biochemical and Petrochemical
• Chemical Technology (Oils, Paints, Dyes, Textiles, Polymer, Food)
• Pharmaceutical Sciences & Technology
Papers will be judged by the experts in the respective fields and participants will be intimated about acceptance of the paper till December 27st , 2009 after which they can register for the conference till January 7, 2009.
Selected papers will be allowed for oral/poster presentation in the conference. The selected article will be presented (LCD power point presentation) by the research student. The papers not selected for oral presentation may be considered for poster presentation.
The time allotted to each presentation will be 15 min followed by an interactive session of 5-10 min. All the participants are expected to attend & participate in the discussion. The corresponding author of the selected article will be intimated through email. The paper must be accompanied by registration fees. Only one paper from each author will be accepted.
Participants are requested to submit the paper in the following format: paper should be typed in Times New Roman (font size 12), double line spacing on A4 size paper leaving 1” margin from all sides. The title should be in bold followed by authors name(s) and affiliation as centre alignment. This should follow the Email ID of the presenting author. The presenting author should be underlined. Maximum pages allowed are ten including figures, tables and references.
Instructions for posters: The poster display space of 24” x 36” will be available for the poster presenter.

YOUNG INNOVATORS CHOICE COMPETITION 2010 ,Conducted at Institute of Chemical Technology ICT
YICC is an event to connect academic brilliance to real life Industrial problem – a platform to put individual’s imagination at work, a challenge to innovate and find solutions.
The competition offers opportunity for undergraduate students to solve real life technical problems in a stipulated time period. Teams of young innovative students are invited to participate. Second and Final year undergraduate Student can participate in this competition .The problem statement would be modeled on a current industry trend and the participant are expected to provide comprehensive executable solutions.
There are attractive prizes for the successful contestants. A team of not more than three students will select the problem on the first day after registration The solutions will be judged by academic and industrial experts in the relevant fields in strict confidence .
PARTICIPATION IN YICC’10
1. Team of maximum three members can participate to solve real life (Industry Sponsored)technical problem.
2. The team will select a problem on first day of ICT YouthFest (January 11,2010).
3. The team will get 72 hours to come up with a paper solution.
4. They will be provided with library and computer with internet facilities in the Institute campus on in working hours.
5. The team members are advised to bring their own laptops and other aids.
6. If necessary, the team will be allowed to contact the concerned industry to seek additional information.
7. The team may attend the other conferences going on in the campus by registering for them separately.
8. The solutions will be judged by academic and industrial experts in strict confidence.
9. The selected teams have to present their paper solution on January 14, 2010.
