Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) is a not-for-profit research institute that aims to conduct innovative research in unifying areas of chemistry, biology and chemical biology. We currently have a career opportunity for a Project Leader in Molecular Modeling of Computer-Aided Drug Design, starting Q2-2011.The successful candidate will employ CADD technologies in support of drug discovery project of an internationally renowned funding
organization. The candidate will work closely with the multidisciplinary drug discovery team (Medicinal Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacology, etc.) at ILS, and collaborate with international partners. In this role, the Project Leader suggests and develops new approaches to the identification and optimization of the small
molecules hits as leads for a contemporary therapeutic target.
Qualifications: Candidates should at least possess a Ph.D. degree in computational chemistry or computational biology with at least two-year pharmaceutical industry or relevant postdoctoral experience, preferably
with CADD paradigms. Candidates should also possess knowledge and comprehension of role of CADD in drug discovery. A proven track record in the use of standard CADD approaches such as experience in protein
modeling, structural analysis, binding site mapping, docking and post-docking analysis, library design/ranking, and virtual screening). Demonstrate skills in the fields of molecular dynamics (knowledge and experience of QM/MM). Show know to how in the field of molecular descriptors, pharmacophore, fingerprints, and structure-activity relationships. Demonstrated expertise in handling/maintenance of large databases,clustering, QSAR, and ADMET optimization is beneficial. Strong programming skills in two or more of the following: C, C++,
Perl, Python, UNIX, Linux, and shell scripting are required. Should be self-motivated, proactive, and a team
player. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

Research Associate Vacancy in Computer Aided Drug Design at Institute of Life Sciences Hyderabad
Discovery (CADD) group to work on the DST funded project, “Design, Synthesis, and Biological
Evaluation of Pharmaceuticallly Acceptable PTP-1B inhibitors”.
Research Associate
Fellowship: `22000 (basic) + 6600 (HRA) + 1833 (MR) = ` 30433 (fixed per month) inclusive all benefits for two years.
Duration: TWO year fixed from the date of joining
Responsibilities: The candidate will be performing molecular modeling studies assigned in the
project - designing, validating, and analyzing (a) SAR activities (b) protein-ligand interactions in
collaboration with the medicinal chemists and molecular biologists/pharmacologists. Main
responsibilities include computational studies and rational drug discovery applications. These studies
also include literature search, proper design and performing documentation, report and presentation
generation etc.
Essential Qualifications: (A) Ph.D. from a recognized university/institute in Computational
Chemistry/Biology with drug discovery principles as part of research work, or (B) Masters with
Pharmacy or Science (organic/physical chemistry) from a recognized university/institute with a
minimum 3-year research experience in relevant molecular modeling applications in drug discovery
setting is minimally required. Extensive applicative/usage knowledge in any drug discovery packages
such as BioSuite, Discovery Studio, GOLD, MDS, MOE, Schrodinger, SYBYL, MDS, and Sybyl is
highly essential; and, working experience with other cheminformatics packages like ACD/Labs etc. is
highly desirable. Working in team-environment with high morale is essential. Experience in
evaluation of protein-ligand interactions through docking, scoring, QSAR, SAR methods is essential.
Educational or applied synthetic organic chemistry knowledge with reaction mechanisms is beneficial.
Candidate should have extensive proficiency with Unix, Linux, Windows operating systems, MS office
products, and should be able to troubleshoot the HW/SW issues. He/She would be involved in
training medicinal chemists or early stage molecular modelers of the group in computational aspects.
Research Experience: More than 3 years with Masters’ degree or Ph.D in computer aided drug
discovery.

Applications are invited for the following Junior Research Fellowship position to work on the DST funded project, “Synthesis of Novel Drug-like Scaffolds By Diastereoselective Intra-molecular Aza-Diels-Alder Cyclization Based on α-Aminoacid and Vanillin Precursors”.
Junior Research Fellowship
Fellowship: `16000 (basic) + 4800 (HRA) + = ` 20800. The monthly stipend is fixed and non-negotiable. It must be noted that the fellowship is for 3 years alone and no claim shall be made by the candidate for extrapolation of this project work into PhD program now or later
Duration: The candidate is permitted to work under observation for an initial period of one year. Only upon finding his/ her work satisfactory, the term may be extended for further two years.
Responsibilities: The selected candidate will be responsible for the design and development of synthetic methods to obtain proposed small molecules which will be tested in relevant pharmacological assays within an in-house or external collaboration. The work includes literature search, proper design and performing reactions, isolation, purification, critical data analysis, interpreting and integrating experimental results with project objectives, characterization of products, documentation, preparing reports, and presentations etc.
Essential Qualifications: M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry (NET/ Lecturership qualification is preferable) from a recognized university/institute, with an academic or industrial laboratory experience in multi-steps, heterocyclic synthesis. The candidate should have in-depth knowledge and skill in organic synthesis and adequate experiences in analyzing spectral data. Working knowledge with MS Office products is essential, while prior knowledge of structure-drawing packages like ISIS/Chemdraw/ChemSketch are highly desirable. The candidate should be willing to work in a team environment
