Post-graduate Student Programme: Summer Training / Project Work (PW) / Dissertation Work (DW)
Objectives:
The aim is to let young minds feel the thrill and excitement of science by working on a project requiring application and critical appreciation of scientific principles.It also aims at active participation in the learning process through experimentation and putting into practice the knowledge acquired in the classrooms. The program gives students an opportunity to gain research experience and work closely with a scientist.
Summer Training / Project Work at IICB
Eligibility & application procedure:
• The Student must be pursuing Postgraduate course from a recognized University/ institute /college in the relevant area.
• He/ She must have secured at least 60% marks throughout his/ her academic career (From High School onwards).
• Training should be essential for the candidate’s course curriculum.
[Those who are pursuing undergraduate courses including four years B.Tech. programme are NOT eligible for Summer Training Programme].
• Bio Data and academic records of the student mentioning percentage of marks obtained in different examinations from school final onwards indicating name of the college/university/institutes where studied. (Do not send photocopy of the results).
• Marks obtained in grade point, if any, is required to be calculated in terms of percentage.
• Original copy of the Recommendation Letter of the Principal / Registrar /Head of the Institution /University, mentioning the training programme sought is essential for the candidate’s course curriculum and also the date & Period of proposed training. [See the ‘SAMPLE REQUEST LETTER’ in the website link].
• Just forwarding the request letter written by the student will not be considered.
• Area(s) in which training is requested is to be mentioned. [Different areas of ongoing Research work can be available at IICB website http://www.iicb.res.in/]
• Applications are to be sent by post in the following address or may be delivered to the Receiving & Dispatch Section, IICB. The envelope containing the above documents is to be super scribed as TRAINING/Project Work (Dept./Univ/Inst/ period of training).
• Application with all above documents along with recommendation letter as per pro- forma (Sample Request letter) to be sent by POST ONLY to The Head, HRG-Academic Affairs , Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, 4-Raja S.C. Mullick Road, Kolkata-700032.
NOTE: Opportunities are also available for short-term/summer trainees in the Institute through sponsored programme from government agencies such as the KVPY, INSA/IAS etc. IICB is unable to entertain direct applications from candidates seeking such placements.
When to Apply
Final applications must be received by the HRG-IICB at least 60 days prior to the commencement of the proposed training.
Training Fees & Accommodation
• There are no fees or tuition costs associated with participation in the
Summer training /project work or dissertation.
• The students have to make their own arrangements for accommodation in Kolkata, if selected.
• Incomplete and invalid applications in any respect will be summarily rejected & no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
• The decisions about the selection will be final and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.

Academic Project Work for BE / BTech/ M.Sc/ ME / MTech students at VSSC | ISRO

Graduate Level Academic Project Work
One function of Human Resource Development division is, facilitation of the academic project work for BE / BTech/ M.Sc/ ME / MTech students with the help of empanelled Scientist/Engineers
GUIDELINES
1. The duration of the project work (block period) will be SIX Weeks (ie. 8 block periods in an year;01Jan-15Feb ; 16Feb-31Mar ;01Apr-15May ;16May-30Jun ; 01Jul- 15Aug ;16Aug-30 Sep ;01Oct -15Nov;16Nov-31Dec ).
2. Total number of students permitted to do project work in a block period will be 300.
3. The applicants must be from a College/Institute within Kerala State (except for dependants of ISRO employees).
4. Dependants of ISRO employees are given priority, who may do project work with one additional student (ie. Group size of max. TWO only ).
5. The balance positions available ( General Category) will be allotted to other applicants. They may do Project work in group of maximum FOUR.
6. Separate application forms are available for dependants of ISRO employees ( P-2 ) and other applicants in General Category ( P-1 ). The application forms may be obtained anytime directly from the PRO, VSSC or Head, HRDD/Dy. Manager, HRDD or through any VSSC employee who may download the form from VSSC Intranet. Photocopies of the form may also be used.
7. The format, duly filled in by the applicants, and approved by the Principal (or HOD) may be forwarded to Head, HRDD/Dy. Manager, HRDD, VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram ?695022.
8. The application may be submitted anytime before TWO months of the block period.
9. The applications thus received (under General Category) will be ranked on the average aggregate % marks obtained by the group members in all their first five semesters.
10. The top ranking applications from the lot, subject to the total positions available under General Quota will be approved for doing the project work.
11. The acceptance or rejection will be communicated to the applicant(s) within a month of closure of receiving applications at VSSC.
12. The selected applicants have to identify a Project Guide from VSSC. In the case of applicants under General Category, the approval from the Project Guide may be obtained in a separate format (which will sent to the selected applicants).
13. The selected applicants have to report to the office of PRO, VSSC (with the letter of intimation) for verification of records and issue of entry passes, during the beginning of the block period.Original / attested copies of mark lists of all the first five semesters of all the participants in a Group (together with their ID issued by the College) may be produced for verification.
14. During the Project work, the students should maintain strict discipline in the campus. They will personally be responsible for all their activities in the Centre.
15. The students should wear the ID issued by VSSC, and should strictly follow all security rules/guidelines, while in the campus.
16. The duration of the Project work (6 Weeks) is not extendable under any circumstances.
17. The Project Guide in VSSC will be the Reporting Officer for the students, during the Project Work.
18. A copy of the synopsis/summary of the Project work, certified by the Project Guide, should be submitted to Head, HRDD/Dy. Manager, HRDD, on completion of the Project Work, and before the end of the block period.

Every year National institute of Oceanography(NIO) conducts final year dissertation or project for students of B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, B.Sc etc.
Research Areas:
A wide range of research areas are being conducted in this institute, please refer individual projects to find out the scientists and departments
Date of Application:
Applications for dissertation program can be sent any-time of the year, but period of dissertation should not cover any part of 1 May to 31 July (since this time is allotted for Summer training students)
Accommodation,Cost,Stipend:
No stipend provided for carrying out project training at NIO.Accommodation provided at a very nominal cost(say 15 to 20 rs per day).The cost of stay will be very cheap when compared to a Tourist who visits GOA
Selection procedure:
Dissertation programs are meant for the students to acquaint themselves with the oceanographic studies and research methods in any branch of oceanography (note that oceanography is a multidisciplinary subject). To apply for these programmes, follow the procedure given below:
1. Interested student should visits project and other pages and acquaint with the work being carried out at this institute. Establish a contact with suitable scientist/s with expression of interest in working for a short project/training under his/her guidance (the links to concerned scientists' biodata are available from their project pages), and obtain consent of the scientist in any written form (e-mail, post, fax).
2. The HoD/ Dean / Principal / Placement officer of the student’s institution should send a request letter addressed to Director, NIO, indicating student's interest in a specific branch of oceanography along with (i) brief CV of the student, and (ii) copy of the communication between the student and scientist at NIO. (Sample request letter)
Application with all above documents to be sent by POST ONLY to The In-charge, HRM-Students Wing, National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula-403 004, Goa.
Applications without consent of the NIO-scientist should not be sent as they have least opportunity of getting placement. Placement letter will be sent to the Departments/College, not directly to the student. Normally the placement letters are sent within 8 weeks after receiving the application at HRM. Therefore, the students should keep in touch with their department/institutions for placement letter. Preserve the placement letter carefully as without it a student cannot join for the project.
Important Notes:
DISSERTATION is for a student whose project should be more than THREE months and should form the part of student's course-curriculam.
Request letters for program (on official letterhead only, having all contact details) should be from HoD/Dean/Principal/Placement Officer and to be addressed to DIRECTOR. Just forwarding the request letter written by the student will not be considered.
