Registration
To confirm your registration with us, you have to pay of Rs 2000 along with an application in prescribed format. In which candidates have to mention their Name, Address, Subject Area and Name of the Institute.
Also send one passport size photograph and brief bio-data to the below mentioned address.
EligibilityTraining is specially conducted for Faculty members and students entering their final year of regular or integrated M.Sc.(Biotechnology/Microbiology/Biochemistry and related streams of Biological Sciences). (Students completing M.Sc. in 2011 need not apply.) There will be a separate batch constitute for research Scholars and Faculty from colleges, universities and research organizations.

Applications are invited from B.Sc., B.Tech., M.Sc. , students and high school teachers of any branch of sciences for participating in a 6-week summer research programme being conducted at the School of Life
Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The Summer Programme is a part of the UGC resource networking programme. The objective of this programme is to motivate and stimulate young and creative minds to pursue a career in science.
The summer school includes talks from experts in the field of modern biological sciences and hands-on experiments. Each participant will be allotted a laboratory for conducting experiments and enjoying their
research.
Application Procedures: Application on plain paper forwarded by the Head of the Department along with the curriculum-vitae and a one page write-up on what interests you in Science. The complete application with email-ID and contact number should reach the office of the Dean, School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi -110067.
•Preferences will be given to the first year M.Sc., second year B.Sc students and high school teachers.
•Selection will be done on the basis of merit and regional representations.

IITM Chennai Summer Fellowship Program 2011
IITM Summer Fellowship Programme 2011
The IITM ‐ Summer Fellowship Programme of two months with stipend is designed to enhance awareness and interest in high quality academic research among young Engineering, Management, Sciences and Humanities students through a goal oriented summer miniproject undertaken at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
Eligibility: Candidates pursuing third year of B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc. (Engg)/Integrated M.E./M.Tech. programme, first year of ME/M.Tech/M.Sc./M.A, MBA with outstanding academic background in terms of high ranks in university examinations are encouraged to apply, highlighting their academic performance and achievement
including papers presented at seminars, projects executed, design contests participated, score/rank in Mathematics Olympiad and any other awards/distinctions obtained. [IIT students are not eligible to apply].
Period of the Project: The contact period for the project will be two months normally during 16 th May ‐ 15 th July 2011. However depending on the convenience, the selected candidates can undertake the project at any time subject to the availability of faculty.
Stipend: A sum of Rs.6,500/‐ (maximum) will be given as a stipend for a total period of 2 months.

Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar offers an opportunity to bright students to work in exciting research areas of Theoretical Physics and Experimental Physics. The programme will be conducted from May 02 to June 10, 2011 when each student will be assigned a project to work under the guidance of a faculty member of the Institute in one of the following areas:
Theory : Condensed matter physics, cosmology, nuclear physics, particle physics, quantum computation and string theory
Experiment : Accelerator based materials science, nanoparticles, surface physics, Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, molecular beam epitaxy and thin films
Eligibility :
M.Sc. (Physics) 1st year students
B.E./B.Tech. (interested in either of the above mentioned areas) 4th year students
Applications for SSVP-2011 will be considered for those students who will complete their degree in 2012. Selected candidates must be available at the Institute for the entire duration of the summer programme.
Financial Assistance:
Selected candidates will be paid a stipend (@ Rs.4500/- per month) for the above period. A round trip second sleeper train fare and other local conveyances will also be reimbursed on completion of the project. In addition, outstation candidates will be provided free hostel accommodation.

The aim is to let young minds feel the thrill and excitement of science by working on a project requiring application and critical appreciation of scientific principles.It also aims at active participation in the learning process through experimentation and putting into practice the knowledge acquired in the classrooms. The program gives students an opportunity to gain research experience and work closely with a scientist.
Summer Training / Project Work at IICB
Eligibility & application procedure:
• The Student must be pursuing Postgraduate course from a recognized University/ institute /college in the relevant area.
• He/ She must have secured at least 60% marks throughout his/ her academic career (From High School onwards).
• Training should be essential for the candidate’s course curriculum.
[Those who are pursuing undergraduate courses including four years B.Tech. programme are NOT eligible for Summer Training Programme].
• Bio Data and academic records of the student mentioning percentage of marks obtained in different examinations from school final onwards indicating name of the college/university/institutes where studied. (Do not send photocopy of the results).
• Marks obtained in grade point, if any, is required to be calculated in terms of percentage.
• Original copy of the Recommendation Letter of the Principal / Registrar /Head of the Institution /University, mentioning the training programme sought is essential for the candidate’s course curriculum and also the date & Period of proposed training. [See the ‘SAMPLE REQUEST LETTER’ in the website link].
• Just forwarding the request letter written by the student will not be considered.

Summer Research Fellowship Program 2011 at IIT Delhi
SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME AT IIT DELHI
IIT Delhi has instituted a prestigious summer research fellowship programme for providing an opportunity to exceptionally good undergraduate students of different engineering institutes in India, other than IIT Delhi (and if possible, abroad) for Top ten of the classes to execute an innovative research and development project under thecguidance of an IIT Delhi faculty. The fellow will register at IIT Delhi as a casual student; she/he will not be required to pay institute registration fees.
About the Fellowship
Duration The Fellowship work can be done in a period of 8-12 weeks which can be availed of during at most two visits.Support The fellowship will cover the following:
(a) cost of travel in the country, to and from IIT Delhi;
(b) stay at IIT Delhi during the visit(s), including boarding and lodging in
the Institute hostels; and
(c) a fellowship of Rs. 500/- per week.
The fellow will have to pay the insurance charges.
Eligibility
Any undergraduate student, who has completed at least 2 years of study towards an engineering degree, is amongst top ten positions in her/his respective programme will be eligible to apply for this fellowship. Students
who will be completing this requirement by May 2011 are also eligible.
How to apply
Application The application form should be downloaded from IIT Delhi website. The applicant must contact IIT Delhi faculty in whose area she/he wishes to execute research and get faculty member’s concurrence in writing on the form. She/he should submit the following:
(a) Application form duly recommended by IITD faculty member
(b) Resume
(c) One consolidated grade card; and rank in class.
(d) No Objection Certificate from the parent institution stating the starting and ending dates for carrying out full time research work at IIT Delhi under the fellowship programme.
(e) One photograph (Passport size), pasted on the application form.
(f) One reference letter in a sealed envelope.

Timeline
Deadline Applications will be received until 17:00 hours on 28th February,

IIT Delhi has instituted a prestigious summer research fellowship programme for providing an opportunity to exceptionally good undergraduate students of different engineering institutes in India, other than IIT Delhi (and if possible, abroad) for Top ten of the classes to execute an innovative research and development project under thecguidance of an IIT Delhi faculty. The fellow will register at IIT Delhi as a casual student; she/he will not be required to pay institute registration fees.
About the Fellowship
Duration The Fellowship work can be done in a period of 8-12 weeks which can be availed of during at most two visits.Support The fellowship will cover the following:
(a) cost of travel in the country, to and from IIT Delhi;
(b) stay at IIT Delhi during the visit(s), including boarding and lodging in
the Institute hostels; and
(c) a fellowship of Rs. 500/- per week.
The fellow will have to pay the insurance charges.
Eligibility
Any undergraduate student, who has completed at least 2 years of study towards an engineering degree, is amongst top ten positions in her/his respective programme will be eligible to apply for this fellowship. Students
who will be completing this requirement by May 2011 are also eligible.
How to apply
Application The application form should be downloaded from IIT Delhi website. The applicant must contact IIT Delhi faculty in whose area she/he wishes to execute research and get faculty member’s concurrence in writing on the form. She/he should submit the following:
(a) Application form duly recommended by IITD faculty member
(b) Resume
(c) One consolidated grade card; and rank in class.
(d) No Objection Certificate from the parent institution stating the starting and ending dates for carrying out full time research work at IIT Delhi under the fellowship programme.
(e) One photograph (Passport size), pasted on the application form.
(f) One reference letter in a sealed envelope.

During the last 31 years, medical undergraduate students of various medical colleges in the country have shown keen interest in Council's Short Term Research Studentship (STS) program. The Council has decided to continue this program by awarding limited number of studentships to deserving undergraduate students during the vacations for the year 2011.

The Centre offers summer fellowships for two months to bright undergraduate and MSc students (renewable for a second year for selected students). This programme has proved to be popular and competitive; each year, about 5000 students from all over India apply for the 120 fellowships awarded. Fifty fellowships are supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, fifteen by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi, and the rest by the Centre.
Students are placed with research groups at the Centre or with scientists else where in India. They are paid travel expenses and a monthly stipend of Rs. 5000. Selected students get the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research, and several summer projects have led to publications in leading journals. A random sample of projects pursued in past years is: Preparation of La0.5Sr0.5Co03 by Sol-Gel spin coating method; Study of correlated response to selection on faster development and early reproduction in Drosophila melanogaster; A study of the chaotic nature of flow in the neighborhood of vortices; Statistical analysis of fatal mining accidents in eight companies of Coal India Ltd. Many of the summer students of past years have gone on to pursue graduate studies and a research career, at the JNCASR or at another leading university.

National Science Academies’ Summer Research Fellowship Programme for Students and Teachers – 2011
The three national Science Academies offer several two-month Summer Fellowships to enable students/teachers to work with scientists associated with the three Academies during 2011. The announcement inviting applications along with the application format and a list of guides willing to accept students/teachers for work on joint short-term projects are included as a supplement in the October 2010 issue of RESONANCE — journal of science education. This information is also available in the websites of the three Academies.
Applications are invited from interested students and teachers from all universities and colleges
affiliated to UGC/AICTE/MCI/Accredited Institutions of State Universities for these Fellowships. The
application should include:
(a) a brief resume of the applicant (in the prescribed format);
(b) a write-up (in about 250 words) as to what the applicant wants to learn and achieve;
(c) the guide with whom the applicant would like to work.
Student applicants should include a recommendation letter from a teacher (in the prescribed format) familiar with their work, in a sealed envelope. The selected candidate may work in consultation with the assigned guide for two months any time during the calendar year, preferably during the summer. Applications should be submitted online through one of the below websites ;however a copy of the application together with enclosures must be sent by speed post to The Coordinator, Science Education Programme, Indian Academy of Sciences, C.V. In recent years, the field of biotechnology has appeared as the expression of wonderful applications of various techniques of molecular biology. Today there is hardly any application area involving biological systems, which doesn't depend on these techniques and concepts. It is logical to anticipate that future decade in this century will witness the major scientific advancements through the application of these cellular, genetics and molecular tools and skills. Towards maintaining the pace with the new developments and achieving a cutting edge in biotechnological applications globally, it is necessary to inculcate these skills and expertise through systematic training of human resource by exposing young scholars to modern tools and sophisticated techniques of Plant Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. Bioinformatics is the real multidisciplinary science where technologies from different fields interact. In a strict sense bioinformatics is the study of how information is represented and transmitted in biological systems. Times have changed in the years since the human genome was identified. Now any biological research becomess worthful research after applying bioinformatics in it. And that is what exactly this training planned for graduate scholars (CST-2010) aims at. The course is running successfully
in its seventh year since 2003.
About CIMAP
Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) is a unique and highly important CSIR laboratory involved in plant research for the production of and value addition to the medicinal and aromatic materials for meeting the demands of Indian industry and for foreign exchange earning by exports. The institute has state-of-art laboratories for plant tissue culture, DNA fingerprinting, transgenic development and gene and biomolecule prospection and bioinformatics. Lucknow, the ‘City of Nawabs’ is today more of a ‘Science City’ of North India for its possession of academic and scientific resourcefulness by the visible presence of organizations like CDRI, NBRI, IITR, IISR, CISH, NBFGR, IET, KGMU, SGPGI and many others including Lucknow University. Lucknow has warm weather during June – July with maximum and minimum temperature range of 35° and 20°C.

, bioinformatics and plant tissue culture techniques would provide exposition to the following main areas:
The “CIMAP Summer Training on Techniques and Tools of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics (CST-2010)” which is now in its fifth year has been specifically planned in view of requests from a large number of students across the country to provide the institutional training as a requirement of their curriculum of B.Tech, M.Sc (Biotech.) and M.Tech courses. The participation in the training is limited to a manageable number of 24 trainees so as to facilitate direct hands on exposition to all participants and thus would be selection based, attempting maximum geographic coverage.

- DNA/RNA techniques – Basic techniques of DNA/RNA, protein handling towards genomics and proteomics.
- Molecular Biology Tools and Methods – Recent molecular biology tools & techniques including gene cloning, sequencing and analysis.
- Plant Tissue Culture Techniques – Basic concepts of morphogenesis, synseed technology, protoplast culture & fusion, Agrobacterium – mediated genetic transformation, bio-reactor scaling-up of cell/hairy roots cultures, in vitro secondary metabolism and metabolic engineering.
- Bioinformatics Tools and Applications. – Biological database and their annotations, Pairwise and multiple sequence alignment, Genome and proteome analysis, Data Mining, Phylogenetic analysis, Gene and Protein structure prediction, drug discovery.

Summer Research Fellowship Program 2010 at IIT Bombay
What is this all about?
IIT Bombay Summer Internship Scheme that was funded by IRCC has been discontinued. Interested students may use the Summer Training Scheme supported by Academic office.
IIT Bombay Research Fellowship Scheme aims to attract professionals and students of proven calibre towards research activities at IIT Bombay. The awardees are expected to work on research projects and could be considered for admission into post-graduate degree / Ph.D Programs subject to fulfilling normal IIT Bombay admission requirements.
IIT Bombay Research Fellowship Scheme
The awardees will be selected based on their academic record and an interview, followed by a written test (if necessary).
They will be expected to work on research projects for a minimum period of one year in different Departments/ Schools/ Centres/ Inter-disciplinary Programs based on their academic background and research interests.
The Research Fellowship Scheme is open to B.Tech. / B.E. / M.Tech. / MBA / M.A. / M.Com. / M.Sc. / MBBS or equivalent degree, with or without experience. Students with research inclinations in Humanities, Bio-sectors, Management and with background other than the above can also apply.
The awardees with B. Tech./B.E. or M.Sc. qualification will be awarded a stipend of Rs. 8,000 - 10,000/- p.m.. Degree holders with experience may be considered for a higher amount.
Other benefits include funding for participation in national & international conferences, Library facilities, hostel accommodation and working with proven international collaborators (where applicable).
Hostel accommodation may be provided subject to availability.
Selection Procedure
The selection procedure consists of preliminary screening of online applications, followed by personal interviews to be held in a decentralized manner at the department level.
Selection criteria will include consistently brilliant academic performance (relative rank in the class/University), work carried out by the student besides his regular academic work, participation/recognition in competitions such as Techfest, Olympiads, National Talent Search Exams, and performance in the interview.

NIT, Rourkela has launched a Summer Internship Programme with an objective to encourage ambitious bright B.Tech. as well as B.Sc. and M.Sc. students of different Institutes in India other than NIT, Rourkela to pursue an innovative research and development project under the guidance of NIT faculties. The summer fellow will register at NIT, Rourkela for whom there will be no institute registration fees. The Institute is pleased to provide 50 nos. of Summer Fellowships.

Tissue Culture and Microbiology’ The Department of Science, Mody Institute of Technology and Science is organizing a DBT-sponsored training course for mid-career scientists involved in undergraduate teaching in Life-Sciences and Biotechnology from 15 to 28 May 2010. The course would consist of one lecture by Guest faculty drawn from reputed research institutes in the country and will be followed by a practicals/hands-on session per day. Candidates below 45 years of age, holding regular positions in Colleges or Research Institutes may apply for this course. The applicants would have to be sponsored by their own
Institutions.
Applications may be sent to the course director stating:

2. Educational qualifications and research/teaching experience.
3. Present place and nature of work.
4. Present and future research interests (one paragraph).

The 3rd IIA - PennState Astrostatistics School
The Indian Institute of Astrophysics and the Center for Astrostatistics, Pennsylvania State University (USA) are jointly organising an 8-day school in fundamental statistical inference as applicable to astrophysical problems for practising astrophysicists. This is the third school in the series.
Motivation
Given that empirical astrophysics is an observational science, the importance of rigorous application of statistical methods to astrophysical data analysis cannot be overstated. Moreover, empirical astrophysics research has seen a paradigm shift in recent years in that it routinely involves data mining of large multiwavelength data sets, requiring complex automated processes that must invoke a very diverse set of statistical techniques. Our Astrostatistics Schools are designed to meet this new challenge by providing a strong conceptual foundation in modern statistics as well as a repertoire of state-of-the-art statistical tools applicable to astrophysical problems.
Content
The school is designed for all levels of practising astrophysicists wishing to enhance their grasp of the application of statistics to their research. The content of the school will broadly follow the pattern of the previous schools (2007, 2008). In addition to lectures, there will be a heavy emphasis on hands-on tutorials using software tools implemented in the public-domain multi-platform R computing environment, which, besides being open-source, is the current standard in research-level statistical computation. There will be opportunities for participants to brainstorm with the faculty of the school on their research problems which involves the application of statisticial methods. There will be a session where papers from the astrophysics literature will be discussed.

The Indian Institute of Astrophysics, located in Bangalore, is a premier institution devoted to research in astrophysics and other allied areas in physics. The Center for Astrostatistics, Pennsylvania State University (USA), is an interdisciplinary research centre at the interface of astrophysics and statistics, where researchers from both disciplines collaborate to share and develop methodologies in order to meet the modern challenges of empirical astrophysics.
Venue
The school will be held on the picturesque campus of the Vainu Bappu Observatory (VBO), a field station of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA). This campus is located near the village of Kavalur in the Javadi Hills in Tamil Nadu. The nearest train stations are Vaniambadi and Jolarpettai, from where road transport to the Observatory will be arranged by IIA. The Observatory campus is about a three-and-a-half hour drive from the IIA-Bangalore campus, from where also, road transport to VBO will be arranged by IIA.
Costs and Financial Support
Board, lodging and transport from Bangalore or the nearest train stations to the Observatory will be covered by the school for all the participants. Participants are required to find their own travel funds to travel to Bangalore or these train stations. However, some limited travel funds are available for deserving participants from institutions within India, especially from the university sector.
How to Apply
Participation in the school is open to practising astrophysicists at all levels. The number of participants will be limited to about 30. An application may be submitted on-line and this is the strongly preferred method. If there are difficulties with this, applications filled in the prescribed downloadable form (MS_Word/ OpenOffice/ Text/ pdf), may be submitted via email to astrostat@iiap.res.in . Particular attention must be paid to demonstrating the relevance of the school to the applicant's research. The deadline for receiving the completed application forms is the 25th March, 2010. In addition, applicants who are yet to obtain a Ph.D. degree should arrange to have two confidential recommendations from persons who can judge the applicant's academic abilities and the relevance of the school to the applicant's research. These recommendations, also on the prescribed recommendation form (MS_Word/ OpenOffice/ Text/ pdf), should be emailed separately by the recommenders to astrostat@iiap.res.in by the 25th March, 2010. Post-Ph.D. applicants need not arrange for recommendation letters but must attach their curriculum vitae and list of research publications to the completed application form. Those that participated in the first or second IIA-PennState Astrostatistics schools (2007 or 2008) are discouraged from applying for the 3rd school.
