The S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, a premier research institution engaged in advanced scientific research in a number of areas and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India, invites motivated students to apply for its residential Post-B.Sc. Integrated Ph.D. Programme in Physical Sciences 2010.
Qualification: B.Sc. in Physics (Honours or Major) with Mathematics and any other Science subject (or similar combination without Honours, if Honours was not available) with at least 55% marks (completed or appearing). BE/B.Tech with relevant background may also apply.
INSPIRE (SHE): The successful candidates under INSPIRE-SHE (DST, Government of India) Scholarship are welcome.
Eligibility for Interview: Score in JEST / NGPE - 2010 or any Standard National Eligibility Test (The score may be provided later if not available before the deadline).

SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAMME – MAY, JUNE and JULY 2010
The S N Bose National Centre opens the Summer Research Programme to be conducted during May to July 2010 for M.Sc-level students with a good academic record. The project will be for a period of six weeks at a stretch under the supervision of a Faculty Member of SNBNCBS in an area of mutual interest. At the end of the project, the students are required to give a presentation of their work and also submit a project report.
The Centre will provide each student an honorarium of Rs 1,500 per week to cover the hostel and canteen expenses. The outstation students will be reimbursed with AC III Tier return Train Fare between their place of work or residence and Kolkata.
Interested students should approach the Faculty members with whom they would like to work.
The last date of receiving applications is 15th March 2010.

positions of Junior Research Fellows.
Qualification: As per the criterion for eligibility under ‘Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)’ by

Interview: The candidates will be called for an interview.
Desired field of study: Both theoretical and experimental research are carried out at the Centre
which has four departments: Theoretical Science; Material Science; Astrophysics and Cosmology; and

S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences (established in 1986), an autonomous institution funded by the
Department of Science and Technology, Government of India is looking for Scientists and Academics with
brilliant academic and research records in current areas of advanced basic sciences (as established through
steady publications in best peer reviewed journals) for appointment as permanent faculties of the Centre. In
recent years the Centre has made significant investment to upgrade its experimental research and computational facilities. For details on research activities and other information (including procedure for application) please visit the website .
The selected faculties are required to pursue a vigorous independent research programme on topics of current interest, take part in other academic activities of the Centre including teaching and supervision of Ph.D. dissertation and carry out duties assigned by the Director from time to time. The faculties of the Centre are expected to bring sponsored projects through competitive process. Reasonable start-up fund may be made available to new faculties.
The faculty appointments are likely to be made in the following positions and areas:
For appointment as a Senior Professor, the candidate must be a tenured Faculty member/Scientist in an
academic institution/national laboratory of repute and should have an exceptional record of publications as well as a record of guiding research as evidenced through Ph.D. students awarded Ph.D. degree. If exceptional candidates are found in other areas they may be offered suitable appointment on recommendation of the Selection Committee. For candidates with exceptional publication record, the Selection Committee can relax the experience/age.Government of India rules on reservations as well as relaxation of age and experience for reserved categories will apply.
