What is this all about?
PhD Admissions 2010
Centre for Liquid Crystal Research (CLCR) Jalahalli, Bangalore is an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The Centre, which currently focuses on liquid crystal materials and devices, aims to expand research interests to related areas in soft matter. The Centre has close collaborations with other research institutes, both within the country and abroad.
As a prime part of research activity, CLCR conducts doctoral programme and for the award of Ph.D. degree, it is affiliated to Mangalore University. The Centre invites applications for the Ph.D. admissions from motivated candidates willing to take up research in the above areas. Fellowship will be provided to students and they will be encouraged to participate in national workshops, symposia and conferences. Hostel accommodation is available for students.
AREAS OF RESEARCH
Physics of Liquid Crystals and other Soft Condensed Matter Photoinduced phase transitions, X-ray diffraction, High pressure studies, Rheological studies, Chromonic and ionic liquid crystals, Dielectric studies, Electric and magnetic field effects, Electro-optics, Nanoparticles doped liquid crystals, Liquid crystal gels,
Magnetic nanoparticles and thin films, Langmuir-Blodgett films, Surface science, Interfacial science and Interfacial rheology. Synthesis and Characterization of Liquid Crystals and other Soft Materials Calamitics, Discotics, Bent-core molecules, Mesoionics, Oligopeptides, Metallomesogens, Gelators, Dimers, Oligomers and Polymers.
Essential qualifications
Masters Degree from a recognized University in Physics/Chemistry with at least 60% aggregate marks for General Category and 55% for SC/ST candidates. Preference will be given to candidates specialized in Condensed Matter Physics/Organic Chemistry at the masters level and also to those who have cleared the NET/GATE. Students who have appeared for the final year examination and expected to complete their degree before 30 September 2010 may also apply.
Fellowships (Subject to revision)
Rs. 12,000 per month and HRA for the first two years
Rs. 14,000 per month and HRA for subsequent years
